Google earn $2.53 billion in advertising sales from U.K. in 2007

LONDON (Dow Jones)–Internet search giant Google Inc.


Google generated sales of $2.53 billion, or GBP1.30 billion, in the U.K. in 2007,
according to a regulatory filing.

The figures underline the extent to which Google is closing the gap, in sales terms, with the U.K.’s largest advertiser-funded broadcaster, ITV PLC (ITV.LN), and its increasing market share in the U.K. advertising marketplace.
Google’s U.K. sales grew 45% in 2007, according to the filing. This represents a significant slowdown in the sales growth rate from 80% sales growth in 2006. Google generated roughly 15% of total sales in the U.K. in 2007, down slightly from 16% in 2006.

In the filing, Google blamed weakness in key market sectors such as finance and travel for the slower U.K. growth.

ITV generated sales of GBP1 billion in the first half of 2007. More than half of ITV’s advertising revenue comes from its flagship ITV1 channel, which saw revenue contract 9% in the first half of 2007, compared with the year-earlier period.
UBS, commenting on the filing, forecast that internet advertising would account for around 20% of total U.K. advertising expenditure by the end of 2008.

Create 3D text

method:

  1. create a new blank document, the size will depends on the size of your text.

  2. type the text, but each letter of your text must be on different layer (so you will have to create 6 layers if your text contains 6 letters)

  3. apply colors to the letters as you wish (you can apply different colors if you want), you can also adjust the text alignments using the cursor

  4. the look of the background depends on your choice (i applied a gradient here)

  5. now rasterize your text layers

  6. select the top most text layer and press ctrl+E to merge it into the second text layer

  7. repeat the above step until you have only two layers left (the background and only one text layer)

  8. select move tool, select the text layer, press & hold alt key and press down and right key alternatively (must press alternatively or the 3D stretch will be discontinnuous), the more you keep pressing, the more 3D will keep stretching…so determine how much stretch you want and press down and right keys up to your choice

  9. now you will see lots of text layer copies have been created, select the top most layer and press ctrl+E to merge it into the next one…keep doing this until you have 3 layers left (background, main text layer and a copy of the text layer)

  10. drag the main text layer to the top, keep the text layer copy at the middle with the background at the bottom

  11. select text layer copy, hit ctrl+U, set edit:master, hue:0, saturation:0, lightness: -60

  12. merge the two text layers

  13. apply some blend on it (i applied drop shadow, bevel & emboss and satin)

  14. now its ready

Make Matrix Image

make a matrix image using photoshop

  1. create a new canvas of size 400×400 pixels (file>new), select color white
  2. apply grain settings (filter>texture>grain) with intensity 100, contrast 100, grain type vertical
    you can apply grains more than once with random horizontal flips to make it intense.
  3. apply foreground color as lime (sort of luminous green) & background color as black
  4. apply neon glow (filter>artistic>neon glow) with settings size 5, brightness 15 & color luminous green
  5. apply glowing edges (filter>stylize>glowing edges) with width 1, brightness 10 & smoothness 1

its ready now :)

Add Transparent Text on Image

well for applying color hover, i already explained it :)
lets discuss on transparent text:

  1. on the background layer, create a new layer with opacity 50%

  2. write the text on that layer

  3. adjust the text position as you desire (hold alt key and use cursor to move, incline etc)

  4. now add some blending options to the text as you like (its up to you what type of blend you want to apply)
    as for me i applied inned shadow, inner glow, outer glow & satin

  5. you can also use the sharpen tool or blur tool to make the look attractive (though i did not)

now you are done :)

Edit an image – apply colors to certain places

method:
this is very easy one:

  1. first, open the source picture in photoshop

  2. create a duplicate layer of the background, you can do it by right clicking on the background layer and click duplicate layer..this will create a layer named as background copy.

  3. then, you have to just select the certain area of the background copy by using the Magic Wand Tool

  4. select the cap, copy the selection (edit>copy), create new layer (layer>new>layer), paste the selection (edit paste) on the newly created layer.

  5. now go to the blending options of the new layer (layer>layer style>blending options), add color overlay, select the desired color, adjust opacity and blend mode

  6. the same steps (step 4 & 5) to be done for the eyes, lips and the hair (with different colors).

  7. now you are done.

try it, its cool :-)

Orkut’s counter got messed up

Orkut’s counter got messed up in orkut server
at 5:15 pm on 18th February, 2008, the orkut server started showing pronlem on count of everyhting like scraps, community posts, community members, videos, poll counts etc.
here are some images of that:

OUG has 0 members.

all communities that i joined have 0 members

one topic in OUG got many posts but the counter did not updated

my scrapbook’s counter did not decrease when i deleted some of my scraps

the main fact is when ever a community was getting areply from one of its member, the member counter decreased immediately to 0
actually, a community getting a reply means it gets active and that means its member number will decrease to 0 in no time
same was for scrap and post counter, even if scraps or posts were written, the counters were not getting updated because of this mess.

Bruter 1.0 BETA 1 has been released. Bruter is a parallel login brute-forcer. This tool is intended to demonstrate the importance of choosing strong passwords. The goal of Bruter is to support a variety of services that allow remote authentication.

Bruter is a tool for the Win32 platform only.

Metasploit Framework v3.1 Released for Download

Metasploit development cycle seems to be picking up, I guess with greater community support the bugs get ironed out and the new features introduced faster.

Good to see an update so soon after Metasploit Framework v3.0 was released.

I keep closely up to date with Metasploit as it’s pretty much the best free tool out there right now, and certainly the most exciting along with Nmap.

The latest version features a graphical user interface, full support for the Windows platform, and over 450 modules, including 265 remote exploits. Metasploit 3.1 consolidates a year of research and development, integrating ideas and code from some of the sharpest and most innovative folks in the security research community.

The graphical user interface is a major step forward for Metasploit users on the Windows platform. Development of this interface was driven by Fabrice Mourron and provides a wizard-based exploitation system, a graphical file and process browser for the Meterpreter payloads, and a multi-tab console interface. “The Metasploit GUI puts Windows users on the same footing as those running Unix by giving them access to a console interface to the framework” said H D Moore, who worked with Fabrice on the GUI project.

The latest incarnation of the framework includes a bristling arsenal of exploit modules that are sure to put a smile on the face of every information warrior. Notable exploits in the 3.1 release include a remote, unpatched kernel-land exploit for Novell Netware, written by toto, a series of 802.11 fuzzing modules that can spray the local airspace with malformed frames, taking out a wide swath of wireless-enabled devices, and a battery of exploits targeted at Borland’s InterBase product line. “I found so many holes that I just gave up releasing all of them”, said Ramon de Carvalho, founder of RISE Security, and Metasploit contributor.

Metasploit runs on all modern operating systems, including Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, and most flavors of BSD. Metasploit has been used on a wide range of hardware platforms, from massive Unix mainframes to the tiny Nokia n800 handheld. Users can access Metasploit using the tab-completing console interface, the Gtk GUI, the command line scripting interface, or the AJAX-enabled web interface. The Windows version of Metasploit includes all software dependencies and a selection of useful networking tools.
