Did you people ever wish to set-up multiple home pages in Firefox ?

you can easily do it without using any third party addon.

Suppose you would like to set Orkut, Google and techian.com as your homepages. Then try this tweak in Firefox to set multiple homepages. It can be done as:

  • Goto Tools>Options>Main
  • In the When Firefox starts drop down menu choose Show my home page
  • In Home page give your homepages separated by a | (pipe symbol)

Example: http://www.google.com|http://www.orkut.com|http://techian.com

  • Click OK

Now next time when you start Firefox all of your three home pages will be displayed simultaneously.

If you’ve ever lost information on your iPod, from accidentally reformatting, or a crash, there are a couple of simple ways to possibly get that information back (depending on the severity or damage caused).

First thing to do, DO NOT start copying files onto your ipod. Unless a thorough format is done, your data is still on the iPod, just checked off to be overwritten. A quick format just checks off everything to be erased. If you start copying files back onto the iPod, the data will start to be overwritten. This is how your file system works on your computer as well.

All your data is organized by the FAT32 file system, so a recovery isn’t difficult, and can be done from a windows 98 computer if need be.

Now, to recover the data, you need a program that thoroughly searches all the clusters on your iPod’s HD for data. The program I’m currently using is Recover4All Pro v2.26. The free version allows you to scan your iPod’s drive for free (and see all the contents that have been deleted), but you need to register in order to recover the files it found.
http://www.recover4all.com/

Another program I would suggest is PC Inspector, http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm, but it’s also limited unless you purchase it.

And finally, Handy Recovery, which can be found at http://www.handyrecovery.com/index.shtml, but it’s also limited until you purchase it.

In either case, I’ve found recover4all to work best for me, it’s pretty simple, and you can recover files while it’s still searching. This is pretty useful, since it takes about 2-3 hours to scan the entire 20gb iPod HD.

Most of the time you lose your original file structure, but the files are intact unless they’ve been overwritten, or the Hard Drive itself is damaged.

Edit:
Data Recovery for Mac Users

I’ve searched around for Mac compatible recovery software, and came up with 2 results. (There may be more, but this is all I can seem to find).

Stellar Information Systems has one that’s compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x and above. There’s a demo you can try, but the full version is priced a bit steeply at $300 (this may not be so steep considering people lose data that is invaluable to them).
http://www.stellarinfo.com/mac-data-recovery.htm

Another one I’ve found is called Virtual Lab that’s also compatible with OS X and OS 9.x. You can try it for free, letting you search the entire HD of the mounted iPod, but they have a novel approach to pricing; you pay by how much you wish to recover. I can see this working for people who do not need an entire software suite, and would just like to recover their data one time only.

The same process to recover data applies to Mac users

How To Protect Orkut account from being hacked ?

Well most of us have seen cases of hacking accounts on Orkut. Its very common and hacking orkut accounts is not a big deal. Basically Orkut users are hacked not because the orkut server’s security is compromised but because of the foolishness of the user itself. The few things you need to take care always are:

  1. Never enter your login details anywhere else except than the orkut homepage
  2. Never execute any file from any user until you are sure that its 100% safe. If you have doubt then upload it to www.virustotal.com and get scanned by various antiviruses for free
  3. If you are trying to be a hacker and trying to play with a keylogger then NEVER download a keylogegr setup from unreliable sources. Always get it from it’s official homepage. You may later apply the keys from other sites:P
  4. If someone else post any link then before clicking on the hyperlink make sure the written address and the target address is the same. just hover your mouse pointer over the link and target location will appear on the status bar below. Eg www.google.com [this link may appear to you google link but its not]
  5. Before executing any javascript or istalling any greasemonkey script make sure its safe. If you know little bit of coding then just view the source of the script, you can easily feagure it out.
  6. If you visit anyone’s profile on orkut and gets some alert messege and then redirected to some other page become caucious because it happened due to xss present in the added application on that profile.
  7. Try to keep the login email id and the primary email id different on okut. There have been several cases of account disabling due to bug on one orkut form. once the account is disabled the ownership gets transferred to other people. In that form only login email was required so to be on safe side its not good to share it with others.
  8. If you own any community then its better to keep the ownership to a seprate profile which you do not use frequently. It will help you to keep the ownership safe.
  9. If you ever feel that you are being keylogged [or if you are using shared computers like in cafes] then better not to use keyboard for entering details. Use onscreen keyboard. Goto run and type OSK and press enter , it will open the on screen keyboard. Use it for entering your details there.
  10. If anytime you feel that your COOKIE is stolen and you are using gmail account then just log into your gmail account, SCroll down and click on “DETAILS” links. A popup window will appear showing all the last login details. There you may see the option of “Sign out all the sessions”. click on it and done.

If you keep these things in mind then there are rare chances of getting yourself hacked. This is not only applicable for orkut accounts but if you follow a said above then you may keep your all accounts safe. Hope this post of mine will help you.  Thanks for reading this post.

Stay tuned for updates.

Well, yesterday there was a post in oug community on orkut, a guy accidentally deleted one of his important file from his system. He even emptied the recycle bin too. Later he tried many softwares but was not able to recover it. So i thought of writing this article to help people to recover the lost file that is important to them.

WHen you delete the file from your system, it is not actually deleted but it is simply removed from the list of the files in the folder.
If you’re using Windows and you deleted the file using Windows Explorer, the file will not have been erased from the disk. It will have been moved to the Recycle Bin. If you’re a Mac user, it’s moved to the Trash. If you use Linux KDE, it’s the Wastebin. Whatever the bucket shaped object is called, as long as a file remains there it can easily be restored in its entirety, with no problem at all. So the first thing to do when you want to recover a deleted file is look in the Recycle Bin / Trash / Wastebin.
If the file you need isn’t there – if you emptied the bin, used Shift Delete to get rid of the file, deleted it from within an application or used some other method of removing it that bypassed the bin – then it is still almost certainly recoverable. When you empty the Recycle Bin or delete a file using another method, the file is still not really deleted. The file no longer exists as far as the operating system is concerned, and the space it occupied becomes available for re-use by other files. But the disk space does not get re-used straight away, so the data contained in the deleted file will stay on your hard drive for some time to come.

A frequent misconception is that the System Restore feature of Windows Millennium, Windows XP and Windows Vista can be used to recover deleted files. However, it is no help at all. System Restore was developed specifically to restore system files back to an earlier state. Its purpose is to enable easy recovery when a software update, installation or removal has an adverse effect on the system. It provides a simple way to roll things back to a point in time when everything worked.

Chances of recovery

Because the operating system doesn’t immediately re-use space from deleted files, a file can be recovered or undeleted right after it has gone, and for a fair while afterwards. But the chances of a perfect undelete decrease the longer you leave it, because eventually some or all of that space will be re-used.

The chances of recovery also depend on how full your computer’s hard drive is. Windows tries to avoid re-using disk space that has recently been freed, to give deleted file recovery software a better chance of working. But the fuller a drive is is, the sooner the freed-up space is going to be used by other files.

If you have defragmented the hard drive since the file was deleted, then this has severely harmed the chances of a successful recovery. Current files will have been moved into the free space left by deleted files in order to reduce fragmentation, making it much less likely that undelete software will be able to find anything useful.

Tools that can help you undelete files are not provided as standard in any operating system. So you will need to use undelete software.
Recover deleted files
Undelete software understands the internals of the system used to store files on a disk (the file system), and uses this knowledge to locate the disk space that was occupied by a deleted file. As we’ve already said, because another file may have used some or all of this disk space, there is no guarantee that a deleted file can be recovered. But usually it is successful. In fact, users of our recommended product Uneraser have often been amazed to find that it recovers files that were deleted months or even years ago. The best undelete programs give you an indication of the chances of recovering a file intact, and even provide file viewers so you can check the contents before recovery.

Tips for buying Pendrive

Posted on December 18, 2008 by admin | No Comments

Very Important :

Some chinese pendrives of 32 gb capacity are there in the market. Make sure ther are not Fake.
When u try to copy the data more than ..say 4gb then it will get corrupted…It happened with many people with 32 Kingston pendrive. The company website didn’t even had this model of 32 gb capacity.

It’s a fraud, Please do not buy 32GB Kingston USB 2.0 Flash Drive.
its only up to 16 GB available with Kingston.
Before buying check for Serial no.

Service Centre no. +91 44- 42015215 [India]

1
Identify how you’ll use a pen drive. Typically, they’re used to copy large amounts of data from one computer to another. Note that copying files or folder with your pen drive is comparatively faster.

2
Remember that pen drives are mostly compatible with Windows (ME/2000/XP), Mac OS (8.6 and above) and Linux Kernel (2.4 and above) without drivers.

3
Note that the pen drives have different capacities. Normally, pen drives can hold between 32 MB and 2 GB. Older versions have 64 MB, 128 MB and 256 MB of storage capacity. Most older ones have now been taken off the market by reputed brands. If you want to store regular data files and excel sheets, a 512 MB memory pen drive is ideal. If you want to store video clips, MP3s and other large files, choose one with 1 GB or 2 GB.

4
Check to see if the pen drive you want can be password protected. The latest models can. You can choose to protect specific data within the drive for additional security.

5
Learn more about the features and prices of various pen drives by referring to online buyer’s guides. Browse through reviews and compare prices. Some popular buyer’s guides are NexTag, Windows Marketplace, MySimon and Epinions

6
Browse through blogs and tech discussion forums. These are good avenues for gathering more information on features, trends and other insights on pen drives.

7
Only buy a pen drive after comparing prices in different stores online and offline. Search for online vendors using engines like Google or Yahoo. Browse through popular online stores such as CompUSA, Best Buy and Circuit City

8
Confirm the pen drive’s warranty and guarantee period. Usually, they come with a year’s warranty.

# Make sure the pen drive is easy to handle. Some pen drives can be difficult because of their size.
# Ensure that your computer has a USB port before buying a pen drive.
# Pen drives are plug-n-play for OS Windows XP and higher. If you are using lower versions, you will have to install the driver using the installation CD.
# Avoid direct sunlight or heat when using your pen drive. It can diminish its efficiency in the long run.

The rumors of the iPhone Nano is back and this time with the photo of the iPhone Nano case.
iDealsChina who has published the information and rendering of the iPhone Nano case manufactured by a Chinese case manufacturer, XSKN claims that the product will be announced at Macworld San Francisco 2009

iPhone App - Pull My Finger

The Chinese case manufacturer, XSKN are the same folks who had leaked the photos of Apple’s iPhone 3G case with a curved back before it was launched.

iDealsChina has provided few details about iPhone Nano’s specification to back up it claims.
They claim that the new iPhone Nano will be of the same height as iPod Nano and will include “3 sensors, camera, [and a] mirror screen but no 3G.”
iPhone Nano case Though I have always maintained that Apple needs to expand its offering to be a serious player in the mobile space, it seems unlikely that Apple would release an iPhone Nano which would look like the one shown in the photo above.
Here are some of the reasons why I think its unlikely:

  • The so-called iPhone Nano’s screen is too small to use iPhone’s virtual keyboard.
  • It is unlikely that Apple would trust a vendor who had leaked the photos of the iPhone 3G case to give them details of their upcoming product.
  • The smaller screen will have issues for iPhone apps that are currently developed for iPhone’s 3.5 inch screen.

But, it is finally good to see some activity on the rumors leading up to Macworld San Francisco 2009.

This is not the first iPhone Nano rumor, we had got a glimpse of the so-called iPhone Nano UI last year.

What do you think about the latest news about iPhone Nano? Any reason which makes you believe that this is a rumor or photo of the new iPhone Nano?

If your system hangs about 2 or 3 minutes at startup, where you can’t access the Start button or the Taskbar, it may be due to one specific service (Background Intelligent Transfer) running in the background. Microsoft put out a patch for this but it didn’t work for me. Here’s what you do:

1. Click on Start / Run, type ‘msconfig’, then click ‘OK’.
2. Go to the ‘Services’ tab, find the’ Background Intelligent Transfer ‘service, disable it, apply the changes & reboot.

This problem with the Background Intelligent Transfer Service should have been corrected in Windows update Q 314862, part of Service Pack 1.
