Google is well known for its innovative works and keepingits expectation up to the mark they have come up with their one more awesome feature in google search which you will definitively love. Yes, i am talking about google voice search feature. All you need to do is speak and google will understand your words and will search accordingly for your query.
They have very smartly programmed this feature which is able to read your voice commands very precisely depending upon your accent and location across the globe. On 14th June they officially announced that slowly they will roll out this feature in coming days. The interface looks really cool. All you need to do is click on the “mic” icon appearing at the end of the search box and speak out your query and wait. Just sensing your gap it will fill the search box with the search query you spoke and will show you search engin results for that query.
Requirements for goole voice search:
Officially google has not stated any requirements for this but i personally tried to figure out what exactly is required for this to work
- A working pc with internet connection
- Preferred browser is google chrome
- google talk plugin
- and ofcource – a mic

Till now we have discussed how to setup a website and I believe the basic steps that I have explained so far was helpful to you.
Once the site is up you need to make sure you make it suitable for search engines also so that when search engines’ crawler programs scans your website you site should clearly represent a clear picture what exactly your website is about and what exactly you are targeting.
How these meta tags looks like?
Well these tags should be included in the <head> </head> section of your website.

This is the most important and basic step of SEO [Search engine optimization]. This looks simple but it is mandatory. We will discuss more in detail in coming posts

I believe till now you have read about or know selecting your domain name, Booking web hosting for your website and linking domain name and hosting space using nameservers. Now you are ready to make the first appearance of your website.
How to upload files to your server
Well, this can be done easily using any ftp client or directly from the control panel of your hosting account. Lets discuss how to upload using ftp.
There are many free ftp softwares and almost all of them does the same task of uploading/downloading file using ftp [file transfer protocol]. I personally use filezilla. Reason is very simple, its very easy to use and it is free and it is available for windows, mac and linux. Download from here. After installing them you might wonder how to use it but thanks to filezilla team that they have put such a simple tutorial on their website that you can very easily follow. You may read the filezilla tutorial here. Just upload the files to yout public_html or www directory and you are done. Please note that you should create an index file that will be loaded first on opening the website and recommended name is index.html or index.php depending upon the language you are using for creating your website.
There are tons of ready-made templates are available for free which you can customize and upload. If you want to create a dynamic site then its better to use some cms [content management system] softwares. The best of all is wordpress that i am currently using for this website. In previous few posts of mine we have discussed the basics of creating a website, how to get domain name for your website , how to get domain name for free and about hosting your website. Now its time to proceed to the next step of linking your domain name to your webhosting account.
If you have booked your domain name and your webhosting account then it does not mean that your website is redy. Just try opening u your website and it will show you the default page of your domain registrar, like godaddy. You need to configure nameservers to make your website work.
What is nameserver?
Nameservers are used to link your hosting account to your domain name. It will map the server ip address of your website to the domain name which you want to setup.
How to setup nameservers?
Setting up nameservers are very easy task. When you book the hosting account then they will provide you the nameservers that you need to configure. Like for this website the mellowhost have provided me 2 nameservers, ns17.ethii.com and ns18.ethii.com. Now goto the control panel of your domain. I will show you doing so at godadd. Log into your godaddy account. Clinc on my account and then on domain management. Click on the domain name you want to configure. Now click on nameserver and then select set up nameservers fron dropdown menu. It will pop up something like this:
Now select “I have the specific nameservers for my domains” option and enter your nameservers there. Click on ok and it is done.
Please note that it may take upto 48 hours for the change to reflect but normally it happens within an hour or two. For me its normally takes around 1 hour. Now your website is ready and it should show the default page of the host account not the domain registrar once the change starts reflecting.

Once you have your website name ready you need a home for your website. This home is the webserver that host your website. You can host your website from your personal computer as well if you have static ip address and decent upload speed. But for that you need to have your computer 24/7 switched on and moreover if load increases on your website [increase in number of visitors] than the website performance will go down and it may get completely down. So to be on safe side its better to host your website files on those computers which are specifically meant for this purpose only.
How to chose the webhosting?
Well, this depends upon the type of website you are planning to create. There are some good free webhosting providers like freehostia, 000webhost, 100mb but to have a professional website its better to go for paid hosting.
There are three types of hosting
- Shared hosting
- VPS
- Dedicated server
For beginners its always better to go for shared hosting. Shared hosting are the ones which host multiple user’s websites on the same webserver and on the same ip. Currently this website is also hosted on shared webhost. There are some very good service providers for hosting and i would list down a few of them. Please note that you may get very very cheap hosting providers but they may not be reliable. Based on my experience i am sharing a few good ones
- hostgator
- dreamhost
- hostmonster
- mellowhost
I am currently using mellow host and I have been using it from past 2 years and its service is really good so far. Hostgator is is also very good but they are a bit costly but you will get great quality service from them. Please make sure you use coupons readily available all across the web before booking your webhost so that you get the discounted price.
Once you start getting a decent traffic and load increase on server, your service provider will ask you to update the plan. This is the time for you to go for a vps. A vps is just like a dedicated server for you only difference is that they are using multiple vps on same server with the help of some virtualization engine. If your server load increases further so that vps is unable to support then you will need a dedicated server. I will discuss all these things in details in future posts. In this post i will tell you how and where to book the domain names which are reliable and cheap as well.
What is a domain name?
Domain name is a name to your website. Without domain name your website will look like 192.168.1.56/~name/index.html which is no doubt not at all user friendly. If your website is techian.com then you can easily remember it by the name techian.com
Suggestion for selecting a good domain name
There are few things that you should keep in mind while selecting your website name or domain name.
- If you want to simply have a website on your name then you may have it but it is always better if you have a domain name which can be branded until you are not a famous personality. eg Georgebush.com is good but viveksinha.com is not recommended. Better go for something like lol.com
- It is always good to have a short name which is a dictionary word and avoid including numbers in domain name however hyphens are acceptable but still without hyphens its better.
- Make sure the domain name do not contain the name of any registered trademark. Eg facebookfans.com is not recommended. The registered company can claim the domain and you will ne be able to do anything.
- If you want to target any product or business then “keyword domain” is always good. I will discuss keyword domain in a separate post in detail. eg. If you want to create a website on shoes the go for a website containing that name.
- Its good to have a website with good category type. Like if you want to create a blog on your name then go for .me domain name. Eg vivek.me. If you want to create a commercial site then go for .com domain
- If you have a domain name which can be remembered easily then its good. Suppose you have a domain name abrakadabragilbilzoo.com. It will be difficult for someone to remember it. Instead if you have a domain name like magicshop.com then its better. Its not that short domain names are always easy to remember. eg abbrd.com is not recommended but whatisyourview.com is recommended.
- People believe that the best domain extension is .com and in general it is true.
- Always try to have a domain name which describes website nature. eg if yourwebsite is on travel then travelnow.com is recommended but eatandsleep.com is not.
From where to get the domain names
There are uncountable service providers from where you can get domain name for cheap. My personal favorite is Godaddy.com. The simple reason is that they are very reliable and i always get the cheapest domain names from the,m I always register/renew domain name on godaddy by using discount coupons readily available all across the internet. I prefer retailmenot.com for getting the discount coupons.
The next best as per my analysis is name.com and 1and1.com.
