This article describes what i think is the “biggest problem with the Software Industry right now” aka “Default password“.I have been playing around with various softwares providing various services ever since i was 14 ,and even though i have seen a lot of improvement in their security since them, one thing that really bothers me is that no one is paying attention to the default password provided to the user. Take an example of BSNL , the biggest phone line and internet connection providers in India , all their services from broadband to dial up all come with a default password.Even the modems and routers that they provide have their default passwords. Most of the non – tech savvy and even some who are tech savvy but are plain ignorant end up not changing their passwords. This is like giving an attacker a key to you’r home to go and rob you . This is what i think is the weekest point in the software hood right now. They may fix “n” numbers of other loopholes but if they don’t fix this problem the end user is still going to suffer. This same mistake can also be found on almost all the different type of sevice providers. All they need to fix this part is to create a small loop that doesn’t let the end user to use the service unleas the default password has been changed .This can be innitiated after say the service has been used the servie once. This small piece of code can prove to be a major help to the end user. In BSNL ‘s dial up service according to a survey conducted by me around 35% of the people use their default passwords in dial up. This percentage goes even further up when we look at the no of people duing the same with their broadband service. So all those coders who end up reading this , here is my plea to all of you , make the change to your code. A few lines of codes can make a lot of difference. And till that happens all you end user idiots ” GO CHANGE YOUR DEFAULT PASSWORD ” !
I would also like to share :

Yep, Manav is completly right! Many ‘Indíanó Idíotâ’ [Indian idiot's] completely forget to change their passwords! [Like my uncle, i have been using his username and password to get connected!]
@side.x : it’s more of a global problem when you look @ it . The article is not relate to just Indians.
